How do I get involved?

If you’re interested in getting involved as a volunteer, becoming a CKI member, or are just curious about getting more information, please contact us at bridgelab@algomau.ca or cki@algomau.ca and we will get back to you as quickly as we can. There are plenty of opportunities in various areas for students or community members to become involved.

How much time do I have to dedicate?

Volunteers and CKI members only have to commit to what you can do. Any time that volunteers or members can dedicate to research or service projects is sincerely appreciated and completely optional.

Can I get my name on a research publication?

Research publications are a great way to build your academic credibility, and there are plenty of opportunities to have your name on a publication. The contributions that are deemed worthy to be considered as an author on a research paper are determined by the supervisors of the project.

How often does the Innovations Team meet?

The Algoma Bridge Lab has weekly in-person meetings to discuss updates, progress reports, and current or potential research. CKI club also has weekly student meetings to discuss the status of different service projects or events occurring. They also communicate during the week through email to keep members informed.

What are the benefits of volunteering with the Innovations Team or joining CKI?

Volunteers and CKI members gain valuable experience around research techniques, scholarly writing, communication skills, and community outreach. If you are looking to develop you research abilities, make an impact in the community, or just be part of a friendly and engaging group of innovative people, this is the place for you.

What is the environment like?

The Algoma Bridge Lab and CKI are friendly, polite, and respectful areas where students, faculty, and interdisciplinary community members come together to be fun, energetic, collaborative, and innovative while participating in impactful research, scholarship opportunities, and community outreach.

What if I’ve never done any research before?

Supervisors, coordinators, and research assistants are all onboarded to help new volunteers learn how to conduct their research in a professional manner. Tutorials on academic writing, researching, designing experiments, and analysis of statistics and data are all provided. We want to make sure all everyone feels comfortable and knowledgeable with the process of conducting research.

What are the expectations for volunteers?

Volunteers and CKI members are expected to follow and respect the guidelines, policies, and general procedures put forth by the supervisors. These expectations follow the core values outlined on the About Us page.
